Due to its high concentrarion of endemic and threatened species, the state of Rio de Janeiro stands out as one of the Atlantic forest regions that deserve high priority in terms of conservation. Aves Estado do Rio de Janeiro / Birds of the State of Rio de Janeiro contains Edson Endrigo's photographs, taken over ten years in the State of Rio de Janeiro. A large proportion of the 175 species depicted are endemic to the Atlantic forest biome and a number of these are in danger of extinction.
