Reviews from the first edition:

"[...] this book is a welcome addition not only for the routes it covers but also because, for the first time in a Cicerone guide, it contains "proper" maps, and in full colour. Maps that you can actually walk from, thus reducing the necessity for detailed, turn-by-turn route-finding instructions such as are needed, for example, in the Confraternity's own series of Camino guides because they are entirely dependent on sketch maps. [...] The user of this excellent new book therefore has all the information he/she needs to guide him/her safely from the starting point to the end of his/her journey. [...] this reviewer has no hesitation at all in recommending this first-class guide book to anyone contemplating a pilgrim journey along a "Northern Camino"."
- The Confraternity of St James' Bulletin, March 2013

"The Cicerone The Northern Caminos guidebook is a comprehensive guide to the Northern, Primitive and English Caminos to Santiago, written by two well-worn pilgrims who have taken the trip several times. Due to its 2013 publishing date, information is likely to be the most reliable currently available. For pilgrims looking for practical information about the roads to Santiago without any frills, this book is complete and straightforward, leaving no stone unturned when it comes to planning and arriving safely from one stop to another."
- Cat Gaa, May 2013

"This guide provides stage by stage descriptions for all four routes and all the information even a first time backpacker will need to make the most of this once in a lifetime experience.  [...] The guide gives very clear descriptions to help the walker choose their route – from day one if starting at Irun there is a choice of mountains or coastal walking. To walk the entire route would take about 5 weeks plus rest days so for those without unlimited free time the guide gives good guidance of what is achievable in the time you have."
- Sue Lee, Strider – the Journal of the LDWA, August 2013

"Whitson and Perazzoli have created a guidebook that will be a big help to English readers who choose the Northern caminos of the del Norte, Primitivo, and Inglés. The guide offers real to-scale maps (hear us, O John Brierley), good historical and cultural background, and a warm and readable style that quietly assures pilgrims that they're in good hands."
- Sandy Brown,, August 2013
