Flore du Bénin, Volume 2 covers 229 species of coastal plants, mangrove forest trees, garden plants, and other remarkable trees. It is concerned primarily with the south of the country, which is the most populous area, and does not aim to be an exhaustive inventory. The second edition brings together information from three earlier publications: the first edition of Flore du Bénin, Volume 2 (1987); Jardin Tropicale by Simone de Souza and J.-R Profizi (1987); and Aperçu sur les Milieux Naturels en Afrique Intertropicale by Simone de Souza, J. P. Profizi and A. Dragesco (1980), the latter two of which were published by published the Centre Cultural Français de Cotonou, Benin.
