About this book

Plants of the Free State: Inventory and Identification Guide seeks to assist in the identification of plants, to provide essential information as well as pleasure and to stimulate and promote an interest in the plants of the Free State, a province of South Africa. It is aimed at professional botanists, nature conservationists, students, amateur botanists and informed laymen.

The three largest families in the region are the Asteraceae, Poaceae and Fabaceae. Family descriptions, keys to the relevant genera in a family, keys to the species of genera and species descriptions are provided. Descriptions include habit, height, distinguishing characters, flowering time, habitat, common names and distribution in the region according to six subregions. A comprehensive, illustrated glossary concludes this treatise.
