About this book

The topic is response to accidental marine pollution, in particular to oil spills. Different approaches in the face of such catastrophes are used by a range of experts, such as biologists, oceanographers, social scientists, lawyers, coastal authorities, and volunteers. Research aiming to improve pollution response strategies requires cooperation and collaboration between a range of experts.

Accidental marine pollution can be a threat to coastal communities. Research is advancing in Europe and the USA to develop response strategies to oil spills. Marine Coastal and Water Pollutions presents research from various authors (oceanographers, engineers, economists, numerical modellers, social scientists, etc) which aims to improve coastal states' responses to oil spills. Our results are supported by funding from both French national research projects (ANR) and coordinated European research projects, in various fields. The annex contains a study of a captive aerial system (drone) to detect oil on the sea surface.
