Sea stars, with myriad colors and markings, have intrigued people for centuries and may be the most recognized marine animals worldwide. This field guide features 63 species of sea stars in the nearshore subtidal community of the Aleutian Islands, Alaska, an understudied region because of its remoteness, adverse weather, and rocky bottoms that inhibit collecting. The book is the result of sea star collections made during 840 scuba dives by the authors throughout the Aleutians, plus observation and research, and includes several recently described species. Biologists, divers, and naturalists are among those who find Field Guide to the Sea Stars of the Aleutian Islands useful, and all who view the photographs will be stunned by the beauty of the sea stars.
