This book contains the proceedings of the international symposium on Sustainable Development and International Law held in Austria in April 1994. The impact of the concept of sustainable development on the evolution of international law is analysed along with the possible contributions to be made by international law towards the full implementation of sustainable development. Particular consideration is given to the possibility of broadening and strengthening existing mechanisms in terms of compliance control, as well as the avoidance or settlement of disputes.
