The purpose of this review is to present practical tools for linking ecology and economics. Such instruments have formed an integral part of Swedish environmental policy since the mid-1970s. This report presents Swedish experiences of environmental taxes and charges and provides us with a better basis for a growing use of economic instruments in environmental policy. It is hoped that Swedish experience will also be of help to other countries in their efforts in this field.
