The Dapoushang section is an excellent section of the Devonian-Carboniferous boundary in China, which has been recommended as one of the candidate sections for the Devonian-Carboniferous boundary stratotype .The Dapcushang section almost entirely consists of a sequence of carbonate deposits with rich fossil groups and best displays the evolutionary lineage from Siphonodella praesulcata to S. sulcata. All results show that the Dapoushang section meets the criteria and requirements for the global stratotype section and point of the Devonian-Carboniferous boundary.
The Dapoushang Section systematically deals with litho and biostratigraphy, geochemistry and sedimentary petrography, and presents detailed descriptions and illustrations of the lithological characters and some important fossil groups, such as conodonts, ammonoids, trilobites, brachiopods, corals, spores and vertebrate microfossils, of the Devonian-Carboniferous boundary beds in the Dapoushang section. Moreover, an objective and fair comparison between the Dapoushang section and the other candidate sections of the Devonian-Carboniferous boundary stratotype is made in The Dapoushang Section.
The Dapoushang Section is a special volume contributed to the 28th International Congress of Geology held in Washington, !989. The object of this bock is to give a comprehensive understanding of the Dapoushang section to the people and experts who are interested in the study on the Devonian-Carboniferous boundary stratotype. It is hoped that the publishing of The Dapoushang Section will be helpful to the evaluation, selection, and final decision of the global stratotype section and point of the Devonian-Carboniferous boundary.
