Amphibians of China, Volume 1 is the first part of a three-volume fauna that is based on decades of fieldwork, laboratory research, and reference to a large amount of literature. The series is divided into two parts. The first part, found in this volume 1, contains the introduction, including the history of Chinese amphibian studies, an overview of China's nature, the biodiversity and geographical distribution of amphibians in China, the ecological types of amphibians in China, and the taxonomic terms and measurement methods of amphibians. The second part, the taxonomic section, commences in volume 1 and will continue in volumes 2 and 3. Volume 1 covers the orders Gymnophiona, Urodela, and Anura (including the families Bombinatoridae, Megophryidae, Bufonidae, and Hylidae), for a total of 200 species and subspecies.
