About this book

Rob Sainsbury has had a keen interest in the flora of Western Australia for many years.

This book is a revision of one of his earlier publications – A Field Guide to Isopogons & Petrophiles; in the Plant Family Proteaceae. These plants have undergone considerable taxonomic revision in the years since the initial field guide was written. There are now approximately 60 species and subspecies of Western Australian Isopogons, and 90 species and subspecies of Western Australian Petrophiles – no Eastern Australian species of these genera have been recorded in this publication.

The work is not intended to be a definitive treatment of these plant species, but rather a re-introduction to the genera. The book is designed to function as a field guide to assist wildflower enthusiasts in the field identification of these plants.
