About this book

A Guide to Land Snakes of Singapore: With Interesting Related Species is a visually stunning and scientifically important book for people who love nature and especially snakes, not just in Singapore but all over the world, particularly in Asia. This book details 75 species of terrestrial snakes which have been documented, or are still present, in Singapore. Only the nine species of true sea snakes from Singapore are not included in this book. The 75 species of terrestrial snakes, however, are discussed succinctly and lavishly illustrated. Where available, the author has included the different colour phases of these snakes, as well as colour phases from outside Singapore to illustrate their diversity. Numerous photographs illustrate dorsal, lateral and ventral aspects of each species, enabling a more precise differentiation from other similar-looking species. Where sexes differ in appearance, the two sexes are illustrated as much as possible. In addition, the book includes 124 species or subspecies of snakes which are not found in Singapore. These are snakes from the countries surrounding Singapore. These snakes may be rare, beautiful and unusual, or else they may be common or very similar to Singapore snakes. The inclusion of these species from outside Singapore adds to the breadth of appeal of this publication.
