About this book

Language: German

For years, the author lived in the Upper Lusatian rectory Diehsa where Alfred Brehm's mother was born and raised until 1824. Among the ancestors of today's zoology authors amongst Thuringians and Francs there are 20 more Upper Lusatians. From these local historical findings grew a collection of documents and from that the present biography. A total of 140 source texts draw a picture of the life path of the creator of Brehms Tierleben, his activities as an explorer, animal carer and educational worker, and illuminate his affinity for the Leipziger spiritual life, and his attitude towards superiors, companions and adversaries. Archive findings provided by the club of Thüringer ornithologists and the Förderkreis Brehm contribute to the need to amend Brehm's since 1890 stereotypically repeated life image. Sketches from current research events involve the reader with the search for historical clues.
