About this book

This book is intended to be a checklist of terrestrial and freshwater species found on the island of Montserrat, located within the Leeward islands chain in the West Indies archipelago. The layout of the checklist is straightforward; the animals are listed by family and higher taxa. Within families species are listed alphabetically. For each species the scientific name, the authority for the name, the common name, location(s) on Montserrat where each species was recorded, including a brief description of the salient habitat features when available, and the worldwide distributions are given. In addition, the endemic species and subspecies of the island are listed separately.
