About this book

Language: French

This atlas is a continuation of the Atlas des Lépidoptères Gracillariidae Lithocolletinae de France published in 2014 by the same authors and contains illustrations of male and female genitalia of members of the moth subfamilies Gracillariinae (s.l.) and Phyllocnistinae. Thierry Varenne's work completes the study with the iconography of the imagos of these butterflies. The species are grouped by affinity of the larval host plants, i.e. by subservience of the butterflies to the botanical families. The set is structured in plates comprising for each species the representation of the genitalia accompanied at least by a depiction of the forewing, if not by in vivo photographs of remarkable quality, and the indication of the wingspan recorded on spread specimens. Sixty plates are devoted to males and females with a reminder of the illustration appearing in reference on the male plate of the species. In addition, the same numbering is assigned to each species throughout the book. The bibliography is selective, only retaining works involving a study of the genitals to allow comparisons.
