The result of the annual Christmas Bird Count of the National Audubon Society from 1963 to 1972, this is the first large-scale atlas for wintering birds in North America. Using computer analysis, Root has produced maps for range and abundance of 253 bird species, with comments on 250 more. Included are transparent overlays showing provincial boundaries, elevation, vegetation, temperatures, rainfall and many other important factors.
