About this book

This international symposia series and associated proceeding volumes have provided scientists and managers a platform to share observations related to this remarkable group of fish and the aquatic systems in which they reside. After the 12th meeting was held in Listvyanka, Russia on Lake Baikal, the 13th International Symposium on the Biology and Management of Coregonid Fishes was held on the south shore of Lake Superior in the quaint fishing community of Bayfield, Wisconsin, USA. The conference in Bayfield was attended by 144 participants that traveled from
12 different countries. Authors contributed a total of 78 oral presentations and 36 poster presentations, which were organized into the following theme areas: 1 – Fisheries management, 2 – Stock assessment and population dynamics, 3 – Habitat, trophic interactions, and ecosystem services, 4 – Aquaculture and rearing, 5 – Evolutionary ecology and genetics, 6 – Recovery of coregonid populations, 7 – Biology and life history, 8 – The role of coregonids in native peoples culture and tradition. Given the meeting was held in the Great Lakes basin, many of the contributions to the conference were from that region. Still, the 25 manuscripts that comprise the present volume represent a broad range of studies conducted across the northern hemisphere.
