About this book

Inland fisheries are an important source of animal protein. Nearly 38 per cent of the inland fish captured comes from 71 low-income food-deficit countries. Inland fisheries provide not only food and nutrition but also livelihoods, income, recreation, cultural services and scientific opportunities.

Nearly 2200 species of finfishes have been recorded from different ecosystems of India. Out of these, about 400 species are commercially important which include Indian major carps, mahseer, minor carps, snow trouts, peninsular carps, catfishes, featherbacks, murrels and a number of exotic species.

Biology of Inland Fishes reviews some biological aspects of more than 100 economically important inland fishes of India and neighbouring countries. The book will be useful for the researchers and students of Fishery Science and Zoology for reference.
