About this book

Moray & Nairn is a protected wetland site on the southern shore of the Moray Firth in the west of Scotland. Thirty years have passed since the publication of the first edition of Martin Cook’s The Birds of Moray & Nairn in 1992. The popularity of birding, and the volume of information, have increased hugely since that time and Martin has now written an updated edition of the book. This edition covers all species recorded in Moray & Nairn in much greater detail than before.

Information to the end of 2021 is included within the main texts and an appendix covers the most important records of 2022. The book is profusely illustrated with images taken by local photographers in Moray & Nairn, including for 271 of the 312 Category A-C species recorded in the area. Another chapter describes 21 of the best birdwatching sites in Moray & Nairn, giving access details (with maps) and key species likely to be found there. Other sections of the book cover changes in bird distribution and numbers, and migrant arrival and departure dates.
