About this book

Language: Russian with English abstract and English, Russian and scientific nomenclature

This is the first complete illustrated guide to the birds of Siberia and contains descriptions of more than 550 species of birds observed in the whole of Siberia between the Urals and the Far East. The book consists of two volumes, sold separately.

This first volume is the background volume. Like the second volume  it is intended for use in the field, but it doesn't need to be carried into the field, and can be left at the field camp in a tent, backpack, or in the car for further reference. This volume includes all background and auxiliary sections. Specific essays containing the most commonly used synonyms, description of the "signs of contact" (the bird in-hand), the main dimensional characteristics (measurements), and information about the way of life.

This second volume is designed specifically for field trips. It describes the field attributes, and the characteristics of mating calls. Colour illustrations depict the birds in different seasonal and age plumages, and have been drawn from such angles as to allow determination of the birds while they are on the ground or in water, while perching, or while in flight. A description of the distribution of species is given, including distribution maps. The characteristics of many subspecies are shown in the illustration.
