About this product

This Bug Box Kit is a fantastic gift for children, being quick and easy to assemble and providing an excellent habitat for insects such as solitary bees. The flat pack kit comes supplied with fixings and instructions included. All you need to assemble the box is a Phillips screwdriver and a pin hammer. The pre-cut wooden panels are constructed of FSC exterior grade plywood, and the whole box can be painted to produce a unique, personalised insect hotel.

Once the box is assembled it can be filled with refugia to suite a range of insects. Our solitary bee wooden nesting tubes will fit perfectly in the base of the box, providing a valuable refuge for these vital pollinating insects. The vertical slots are particularly useful for flying insects, and in particular lacewings and ladybirds looking for a sheltered space to overwinter. The lid is held in place by a single screw that allows you to open the box easily when inspecting or replacing old refugia.

The box has two fixing holes in the upper corners of the back panel that can be used for mounting. It should be sited in a warm place, ideally oriented to face between southeast and south and to catch some sun. It is helpful to have a patch of bare soil nearby, and food sources such as flowers, orchards and fruit.

Assembly requires a Phillips screwdriver and a pin hammer.

This kit includes:
 - Pre-cut wooden panels
 - Fixings to assemble the box
 - Assembly instructions
