This part is the 16th dealing with the butterfly family Papilionidae, and provides an illustrated checklist of the Papilio machaon-group. In total there exist more than 140 described species, subspecies and synonyms. This preliminary illustrated list presents 24 subspecies of Papilio machaon. According to the author's ideas the Scarce Swallowtail (Iphiclides podalirius Linnaeus, 1758) and the Southern Swallowtail (Papilio alexanor Esper, 1800) are added to complete this work.
