About this book

Language: French

Thanks to the important place that nuptial calls hold in the reproduction of anuran amphibians, batrachologists (those who study amphibians) are fortunate to have, in their taxonomic work, acoustic identity cards produced by their study subjects. Knowledge of vocalizations is particularly useful in the intertropical regions, which house very diverse amphiban faunas. In Africa, Cameroon occupies a prime position from this point of view.

This work is accompanied by four CDs that bring together 360 vocal recordings produced by 175 species. A first part brings together some background chapters and a second part groups the entries presenting each sound file with a picture of each taxon. The third part is made up of sonograms and oscillograms of all the recorded species. An alphabetical listing indicates where the taxa can be found on the CDs. The listener will discover a sound universe that is both surprising and sometimes not devoid of beauty, and the batrachologist will appreciate an amply documented illustration of the diversity and the specificity of the nuptial calls of anurans, as well as having a sound bank that might help in future research.
