The Protected Area Update started publication in 1994 and fulfils an important need for news and information related to protected areas from across India. The newsletter is published six times a year and mailed to nearly 2,000 people. Conservation Kaleidoscope is a collection of over 100 editoirials and accompanying news items that have appeared over the last two decades in the Protected Area Update. Divided into 14 broad themes, Conservation Kaleidoscope is a thought-provoking collection which provides a holistic view of the state of wildlife conservation and protected area management in contemporary India.

Biography

Pankaj Sekhsaria has been a long-time member of Kalpavriksh and editor of the Protected Area Update for nearly a quarter of a century now. He has a Master’s Degree in Mass Communication from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, India and a recent PhD in Science and Technology Studies from Maastricht University, the Netherlands. He is currently an Associate Professor at the Centre for Technology Alternatives for Rural Areas (CTARA), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay.

He has written extensively on issues of conservation in India and more recently on the complex and very interesting relationships between science, society and technology. He is the author/editor of 10 books on a range of topics including the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, protected areas and wildlife in different geographies of India and on technology, society and innovation with a special focus on nanotechnology in the Indian context.
