Taxonomic Literature

Sub-series of: Regnum Vegetabile

Volumes 1 - 7 compiled by Frans Stafleu & Richard Cowan, supplements compiled by Frans Stafleu & Eric Mennega

This exhaustive publication, much revised and enlarged from the modest 1967 first edition, is aimed at directing botanists toward the literature and collections of importance for present-day plant systematics, nomenclature and history of botany. It provides a bibliography for the field up to 1940, critical information on the books themselves, such as standing in nomenclature, dates of publication, studies on contents and methods, and information on sources, supporting literature, herbarium collections and types. Not surprisingly, given that it is the period in which descriptive plant botany taxonomy reached its highest achievements, special emphasis is given to the years 1870 - 1914, for which no comprehensive bibliography is available.
