Type Specimens of Birds in the American Museum of Natural History

This subseries of the Bulletin of the American Museum of Natural History. The American Museum of Natural History holds an enormous collection of type specimens of bird species as a result of either collectors depositing their collections here, or of collecting trips organised by the museum in the past.

As part of an institution's responsibility, according to the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature, every institute where types are deposited should "(1) ensure that all are clearly marked so that they will be unmistakably recognized; (2) take all necessary steps for their safe preservation; (3) make them accessible for study; (4) publish lists of type material in its possession or custody; and (5) so far as possible, communicate information concerning types when requested by zoologists." This series of catalogue complies with that responsibility.
