About this book

The Rock Rattlesnakes (Crotalus lepidus) are small-to-medium sized rattlesnakes that inhabit the mountainous rocky areas of the southwestern United States and much of northern Mexico. It is a highly variable species, not only in colour, but in pattern variation as well. This variation has been well documented in many isolated texts, but the purpose of this book is to provide, through the compilation of hundreds of photographs of 67 localities and over 350 individual specimens, the first complete summary of that noteworthy variability, not only within the animal itself, but the very habitats that they have adapted to in northern and central Mexico.

Biography

Michael Price had an ovenwhelming interest in dinosaurs as a young boy, but unlike many, he did not “grow out" of that phase. In fact, his interest in reptiles, particularly snakes, became a lifelong passion. He has fond memories of finding and keeping snakes as he was growing up. He made his first trek south of the border in 2004 and followed that first excursion with an additional five trips over the next four years. Permitted
by Mexico in 2009 for ongoing research on Crotalus lepidus, he has since traveled to Mexico an additional 16 times.

Michael has worked in a variety of fields through the years, all the while keeping his passion for reptiles as a hobby. Now, he is founder of Wild About Texas, an independent company that provides nature programs to local schools, venomous animal safety training for oil companies and municipalities, reptile identification classes, newspaper columns that specialize in native fauna, and even field trips.
