About this book

Language: Bilingual in English and German

The orchid genus Masdevallia is one of the largest in numbers of species of the 30-odd genera of the Pleurothallidinae family. They are distributed mostly in the moist forests from southern Mexico to southern Brazil, the greatest concentration occupying the Andes of Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. None is known from the Antilles, and very few from Brazil. A revision of the taxonomy of the genus above the level of species was published in lcones Pleurothallidinarum (Luer, 1986). A contemporary serial publication, Thesaurus Masdevalliarum in elephant-folio format patterned after that of Miss Woolward, was begun in 1983, published by Verlag Helga Königer in Munich, Germany. The present A Treasure of Masdevallia is a sequel in similar format, and will continue as long as new species are described.

Volume 22 describes 15 new species: Masdevallia audax, M. bucculenta, M. corderoana, M. exquisita, M. guayanensis, M. martinae, M. morochoi, M. pachysepala, M. paquishae, M. quasimodo, M. rubeola, M. sanchezii, M. soennemarkii, M. trifurcata, and M. ximenae.

The elephant folio (11.75 × 16.5 inches) series is gum-bound to facilitate binding with previous fascicles from the series or for splitting as individual art prints.
