"The AJC Bose Indian Botanic Garden, Howrah, formerly known as “East India Company Bagan", is the oldest botanic garden in South-East Asia. The unique floral wealth and remarkable landscape of this Historic garden has always attracted researchers, horticulturists, gardeners, plant lovers and architects from home and abroad for more than two centuries.The garden nurtures a large number of indigenous as well rare exotic plants.

Since the publication of Non-Herbaceous Phanerogams of the Indian Botanic Garden, Calcutta by Sen and Naskar in 1965, a large number of plants have been introduced and added to the collection of plants in different divisions of the garden. Therefore, a thorough update of the list of plants available in the different divsions of the garden and its current status was essential to understand the present floral wealth of this garden.

Census of Plants in AJC Bose Indian Botanic Garden: A Report, written by the scientists of the garden, enlists 14 122 plants under 1 377 species including colour pictures of some RET plants conserved. I hope that the publication proves to be an important contribution to the floral wealth of this age old garden and it would be of immense help for researchers, horticulturists, planners, policy makers and resource managers."
