About this book

Checklist of lichens of the western Carpathians summarizes current knowledge of lichen species diversity in the Western Carpathians cited in 1261 published sources. The list comprises 288 genera and 1817 species of lichens and allied fungi reported from Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Austria. The authors hope that this treatment will encourage lichenological research in the Carpathians, both basic and applied studies. It should also serve as a point of reference for urgently needed biodiversity studies of the entire Carpathians, and for preparing conservation programs there.
