About this book

The book contains the current status of very common plant species in South Sikkim, India. Here proper identification, distribution, important descriptions like flowering times, habit and habitats, family membership and the ethnic values have been described in details. The author has passed the contents by well-known experts from the State Forest Department who are genus specialists or have dedicated their life working on the state flora. The contents have also been reviewed by the Botanical Survey of India, Gangtok for correct identification of the plant species. For convenience to the readers, besides scientific names, common names and vernacular names have been provided. To make it easier, plant names have been given in five common local languages viz, Nepali, Bhutia, Lepcha, Limboo and Rai. The complete contents are presented in simple yet appropriate language with clear and colourful images. Descriptions of ethnobotanical applications of plants are given with proper consultancy with local experts, collection of data from local markets and traditional practitioners.
