This hardbound special issue of Fish Magazine Taiwan is dedicated to the world's freshwater crayfish fauna and serves as a comprehensive "crayfish catalogue", offering the most essential facts about each species. It provides all enthusiasts, from laymen to specialists, with a systematic overview of this group of crustaceans, capturing the diversity in colour, forms, life strategies, and behavioural patterns.
This book is the fruit of many years of compiling and collating all available information about the world's crayfish species from many scattered sources. By drawing on a network of colleagues and crayfish workers worldwide, the authors were able to collect high-quality illustrations of almost all of the approximately 750 different species known to science. In travelling to locate, document, and photograph species for which no information was available, they discovered a number of new species that are described here for the first time.
