About this book

Language: Spanish

More than 380 species of birds have been observed in the Spanish regions of Castilla and León, many of them threatened with extinction, which makes it one of the most biodiverse regions in all of Europe. Travelling a few kilometers, you can observe everything from high mountain alpine birds to steppe birds typical of arid areas in one day. Some the wetlands here have received almost 260 species of birds and every winter the areas are visited by several tens of thousands of water birds, including American and Siberian species. There are ideal sites for the observation of waders, seagulls and other marine species despite the region being far from the coast. The areas also have the largest population of common bustards in the world and retain some of the last ricotta lark populations in the country.

This guide includes a wide variety of itineraries for bird watching in the Community of Castilla and León, divided into 12 chapters, one for each month of the year, and is aimed at:
- Bird watchers in general.
- Families, groups and those that are just starting.
- Expert observers and seekers of rarities and rare birds.

The book also includes:
- A list with all the places of ornithological interest mentioned in the text, with their coordinates.
- Provincial maps, with the location of all the suggested places.
- Detailed maps showing the location of the most interesting places and the best observation points.
- An updated list of birds of Castile and Leon, in accordance with the new Birdlife taxonomy.
- An extensive collection of resources on birds and general ornithology, both in Castilla and León, and in Spain.

This book is thus an ideal guide for all birdwatching enthusiasts. It offers a large selection of specific places of ornithological interest in Castilla and León, distributed throughout the twelve months of the year and aimed at introducing, enjoying, valuing, and preserving the huge variety of birds present in these areas.
