In this volume, approximately 6,800 jewel beetle records are analyzed. Various aspects are presented, for example, morphology, colour, development, and ecological, economic, and cultural meaning), the relevant publications are shortly treated chronologically, and the biographical data of the historical figures involved in research on jewel beetles is compiled.

The distribution of the jewel beetle in Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland is illustrated in maps, the data differentiated by age. The species chapter looks at biology and habitat requirements, history of discovery, vulnerability and other aspects. Reference is made to efforts to protect specific species outside Germany and a Red List of endangered species in Rhineland-Palatinate is created.

In diesem Band werden etwa 6.800 Datensätze zu den Prachtkäfern ausgewertet. Die Prachtkäfer werden unter vielfältigen Aspekten (z.B. Morphologie, Färbung, Entwicklung, ökologische, wirtschaftliche, kulturelle Bedeutung) vorgestellt, die relevanten Publikationen kurz chronologisch und inhaltlich präsentiert, die Lebensdaten der an der Erforschung der Prachtkäfer des Untersuchungsgebietes beteiligten historischen Persönlichkeiten zusammengestellt.

Die Verbreitung der Prachtkäfer in Rheinland-Pfalz und im Saarland wird in Karten veranschaulicht, die Nachweise sind nach Alter unterschieden. Die Artkapitel gehen auf Biologie und Habitatansprüche, Entdeckungsgeschichte, Gefährdung und weitere Aspekte ein. Es wird auf Bemühungen zum Schutz spezieller Arten außerhalb Deutschlands verwiesen und eine Rote Liste der in Rheinland-Pfalz vom Aussterben bedrohten Spezies erstellt.
