About this book

Language: English

From the introduction:

"In many cities, planners have often brought in trees from various parts of the world that bloom at various times of the year and provide shade. Residents of the city, who had space, also planted in their gardens trees that they liked, adding to the splendour and variety of the urban landscape. This being the case, one can expect to see a multitude of trees adorning the city's streets, parks and gardens. And, in case of Bangalore it was more so; the weather allowed for luxuriant growth of vegetation. This earned the city the title: The Garden City.

However, we are in an era where the stress is on "developing" the city. Anything that comes in the way of this development, is often laid waste. Trees, like frontline soldiers take the brunt of this mindless "development". In a situation like this, it was thought apt to awaken, among people, the latent pride and interest in the trees that they adored and nurtured less than a generation ago. To achieve this, there is a need for an illustrated, affordable and handy field guide. This booklet attempts to fill this gap."
