"Ecotourism Policy and Planning is a clearly written edited volume, which draws upon contributions from an impressive range of authors, disciplines and case areas. It should therefore attract a wide readership--from graduate students, through to practitioners, policy makers, and academics. ... Should ecotourism be taken over by die-hard preservationists, those who often advocate 'no development'? In the concluding section, the editors seem to imply that this is not an either/or situation, with context being the most important issue. For me, this is the main lesson to be learned from such edited monographs more generally. Whilst conceptual models can be proposed, what is most important is learning about the relations of power which shape a given context. The volume is effective where these relations are drawn out.
