Ethno Medicinal Plants of Manipur North-East India is the first of its kind to document the detailed information on the ethno-medicinal uses of 514 plant species used for various ailments in the rural areas from time immemorial by the different ethnic communities of the Thoubal District of Manipur, North-East India. The people of the Thoubal District have developed their own indigenous culture, customs and traditions for using various plants growing in their surroundings for food, medicine, material culture, religious rites, myths, etc. by empirical reasoning gained from their age-long experiences. The information provided will generate awareness among the people and will help in preservation of the valuable indigenous traditional knowledge system and conservation of medicinal plants before they become completely extinct, and transfer this knowledge to future generations for rural health care. The vast amount of information provided can be scientifically used to develop sustainable management of ethno-medicinal plant resources, and also to work out a welfare programme to improve the quality of life of the ethnic communities. Further scientific investigations on the ethno-medicines prepared from the plant products used by the ethnic communities may prove to be of great pharmacological importance, leading to the rediscovery of new drugs for various ailments.
