About this book

The Socotran Archipelago is part of the Republic of Yemen, but geologically is a continuation of the Somali Peninsula. The main island (Socotra) is one of the best preserved semi-arid tropical islands in the world, and has a rich variety of plant and animal species, with a high degree of endemism. 14 mammal and 175 bird species have been recorded, but this comprehensive work covers all animal classes, including marine life, with full species descriptions and excellent illustrations. Introductory chapters cover vegetation, biogeography, history of biological exploration and conservation.
