About this book

This field guide on Indian birds with proper colour photographs and identification key pointers makes this book significantly different from others. These pointers have been given for confusing or similar-looking species thereby one can easily identify the species by looking at the characters highlighted. A detailed distribution map is also given for each of the species to understand the distribution pattern along with their character, habitats, migration status and IUCN status (except the vagrants). Thus we have given 1331 species, under 26 orders, 113 families and 484 genera. Among them, we have considered 1227 species as regular ones as they are known to occur within the Indian territories on a regular basis, and 104 occasionally recorded species as vagrants.
