The book is aimed at both those interested in philately and fossil fish. There is a detailed representation of all stamps and postal stationery known so far. To explain the philatelic material, a brief description of the appearance, size and distribution as well as a photograph of the fossil are attached. The authors have endeavoured to provide photos of the same species or, if this was not attainable, photos of a closely related species of the same genus.

Das Buch richtet sich sowohl an philatelistisch Interessierte als auch an Sammler von fossilen Fischen. Es gibt eine ausführliche Darstellung aller Marken, Stempel und Ganzsachen, die bisher bekannt sind. Zur Erläuterung des philatelistischen Materials sind eine kurze Beschreibung des Aussehens, die Größe und Verbreitung sowie eine Fotografie des Fossils beigefügt. Hier war es unser Bestreben, wenn möglich dieselbe Art, sofern diese nicht erreichbar war, eine nah verwandte Spezies derselben Gattung fotografisch zu dokumentieren.
