At least 488 of these are considered synonyms, 154 are rejected on grounds of material being of insufficient quality, 206 are nomina nuda, and 83 are of actually recognized species. For the last groups, the stratigraphical and geographical references here are not exhaustive. Based on what is presented here, an estimate for the maximum number of valid species is 1,774.
