Each article is written by specialist(s) in the field and is duly reviewed by experts. The book is divided into six parts.

In Part I, the Geology of many parts of Garhwal and Kumaun (Uttarakhand), Charnba and Sirmur districts (Himachal Pradesh), Kohima (Nagaland), Aizawl (Mizoram), Indus-Shyok Suture Zones (Laddakh Himalaya) and ophiolite belts (parts of Indo-Burma Ranges) is described. The geomorphic evolution of Uttarakhand also has been discussed. Climate-induced natural hazards like cloud bursts, landslides etc. in the Himalayan region are highlighted.

Part II of the book is devoted to the plant and animal diversity of the Himalayas which include lichens, ferns and fern allies, tree ferns, rnushrooms, fungi, soil rnicro-organisms, mosses, honey bees and fish. The role of secondary metabolites of microbes in
raising the biodiversity of any particular region is also discussed. Impact of site-matched tree species on sodic soil environment has also been discussed for a part of the Uttar Pradesh region.
