The first facsimile edition of this classic, originally published in 1613, consists of 3 volumes in the format of 43.5 × 52 cm containing the facsimile of the original work by Besler, and a commentary volume in Italian, English, and German, by A. Menghini, D. Contin, K. Littger, W. Dressendorfer, and W. D. Muller Jahnke.

Shows 1084 plants on 367 full-colour plates, all supposed to be present in the bishop's residence garden at Willibaldsburg. There were not only German plants included, but also quite a number from south and southeastern European areas as well as a few from Africa and America. The plants have been painted in full size, if the book format allowed. The arrangement is by seasons (spring, summer, autumn, winter).

The commentary (29 × 38cm) shows all coloured plates in a smaller size with extensive scientific analyses of scientific, artistic, biographic and socio-cultural aspects of the work.
