About this book

Language: French, with bilingual summary in English and French

After a brief presentation of the biology of Chilopoda, this work proposes a preliminary list of centipedes of Massif armoricain. It quotes 42 species that have been positively listed in this area, and 50 species in total because it includes those who possibly may be present there. A new species is quoted for the French fauna: Geophilus pusillifrater Verhoeff, 1898 (Geophilomorpha, Geophilidae). We integrate a table that recapitulates the presence of these taxa in one or more administrative areas of the Massif armoricain (Brittany, Basse-Normandie, Pays de la Loire). A key of the orders of centipedes, and key of species for each order are included. It will permit easier identification of the centipedes of Massif armoricain, and of the French Atlantic coast. Many pictures and explanations are added, and some useful characters detailed (sexual recognition; number of trunk-segments of geophilomorphs; size and spinulation of lithobiomorphs; and methods of observation of labrum and maxillae).
