About this book

Land Snails on the Solomon Islands, Volume 2 deals with land snail family Camaenidae. Based on fieldwork it documents some 70 species. It also critically reviews all literature on Camaenida on the Solomon Islands. The book follows the same format as Volume 1, although here genera are discussed from west to east, instead of the reverse as done in Volume 1. Each entry covers type material and locality, etymology of the species name, shell characteristics, a short discussion of any mention of this species in the literature, and distribution. Species are illustrated both by colour drawings from 19th century naturalists, and modern-day photos. Ten colour plates display the shells, with a further four colour plates showing a number of live specimens.
