About this book

Language: French

This work is the first volume in a series to appear devoted to the bryophytes of France, a reference long-awaited by botanists. With 1320 species, France is the country in Europe that is home to the richest bryoflora and yet no recent work has been devoted to it. This first volume presents 312 liverworts, including 85 thallous liverworts and 227 leafy liverworts, and 5 hornworts.

This new Flore des Bryophytes aims to allow all naturalists to name all the species of mosses, liverworts and hornworts encountered in the metropolitan area. Illustrated identification keys allow access to the different taxonomic ranks: families, genera, species. After a general description of each family, the species are the subject of a complete record: description, chorology, altitudinal spread, distribution, advice for identification in the field, habitats, syntaxons and sociology, etc. The work benefits from an abundant and original iconography, each species is presented in its habitat, but microscopic criteria are illustrated (spores, sections of leaves / tillers).
