This book is the outcome of a survey undertaken by the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences. It contains data on 560 medicinal plants and gives their scientific, Sanskrit, and local names, distribution, availability, IUCN status and threat status. Out of these, 163 are used in the ayurvedic system of medicine. For these Sanskrit name, distribution, parts used, pharmacological properties, ayurvedic preparation (fomulation), and major indications (therapeutic uses) are provided. A total of 204 folk uses for various ailments such as jaundice, diabetes, opthalmic diseases, skin diseases, kidney stones etc. are reported.
