This Spanish field guide describes the dragonflies of the province of Cádiz in southwestern Spain. The extensive introduction covers systematics, origin and evolution, morphology and physiology, behaviour, habitat and a dichotomous key at the family level for adults and larvae. Then, and after a brief introduction to each family, a total of 53 species are independently described. They are illustrated with photographs of adults of both sexes and, in each species sections detailing etymology, history, distribution, imagos and larval morphology, habitats, and behaviour. Each species is accompanied by two plates where aspects of its morphology (imagos and larvae) are illustrated with a series of arrows that highlight the details mentioned in the morphology section. These plates include a bar with the local phenology of the species, a map showing the known distribution of the species in the study area in 10 × 10 UTM squares, and measurements of both larvae and adults. Finally, the book has bibliography and an appendix that includes 5 species divided into three sections: sporadic species, unconfirmed citations, and no current registered presence.
