About this book

This revised 2022 edition describes more than 200 orchid species found in East Gippsland, a rural region that makes up the southeastern part of Victoria, Australia. Each is illustrated with superb photographs. Also included are notes for easy identification and orchid distribution as well as general information about the structure of the plants, detail on flower parts, pollination and orchid habitat. A beautifully presented record of East Gippsland orchids, photographed and produced by local field naturalists. The devastating bushfires in the 2019-2020 summer incinerated much of East Gippsland's natural vegetation and with it many species of orchids, particularly epiphytic species. It will be some time yet before it is known if all species previously recorded have survived.
