About this book

Author Karen Sackett informs readers of all ages of the wily ways of weeds, including the creepy trickster Dalmatian toadflax, which looks like a garden snapdragon but spreads long distances underground, and the hitchhiking outlaw houndstongue, whose Velcro-like burrs cling to fur and clothes. You'll learn how "special agents" in weed control are reining in these outlaws, and you'll find out what you can do to help.

Biography

Karen Sackett has an elementary education degree, with a minor in speech pathology. She has a passion for writing, working with kids, and playing bluegrass music. Originally from Idaho, Karen and her husband have lived for over twenty-five years in a forest near Bozeman, Montana. She learned to maintain a healthy forest on her land through work with the Montana Master Forest Stewardship Program. When she's not patrolling for outlaw weeds with her grandchildren, she's learning to play the Paraguayan harp.

Ed Jenne, a professional illustrator in Missoula, Montana, used his biology degree and sense of humor when drawing the big, bad weeds in this book. He specializes in maps and complex illustrations of busy scenes. Nancy Seiler, who paints in fluid acrylics in her studio in Missoula, Montana, provide botanical illustrations for the Most Not Wanted guide.
